It doesn’t get much more idyllic than a wine made on the grounds of a medieval castle. Castello della Sala, tucked in the rolling hills of Umbria, is owned by the prestigious Antinori winemaking family. You may recognise the name as that behind the world-renowned Super Tuscan, Tignanello. And this bottling shows that central Italy can be just as good for whites as it is for reds. This blend of Chardonnay and local Grechetto grapes has intense, complex aromas of citrus, pineapple, acacia blossoms and flint. It’s generous, structured and pleasantly savoury, with hints of hazelnut and butter. Try it with a decadently creamy risotto.
