Château Le Gay 2014, Pomerol

What Pomerol lacks in size, it more than makes up for in exceptional Bordeaux. Merlot-dominated blends reign supreme here, and some of finest expressions of the grape can be found. Take Chateau Le Gay, who are hitting their true potential. They make their wine under the motto of their father: ‘quality before quantity’. Yields are small. But this means that the few grapes have a brilliant concentration of flavour. And you can taste it in this 2014 vintage, which scored 93 Parker Points. It’s aged for 18 months in oak, so there’s a real depth to its savoury notes of black plum, blackcurrant and spice. Serve with sirloin and porcini mushrooms.
