Penfolds began in 1844 and is arguably Australia’s finest winery. Today, chief winemaker is Newcastle-born Peter Gago. He makes St Henri with the same methods that have been applied since it began in the 1950s. It stands out amongst many of the other very best red wines in the country, as it doesn’t rely on the use on new oak. It’s concentrated and rich, with flavours of black cherry, blackberry, damson, chocolate, coffee, pepper and vanilla. Drink now with lamb or cellar until 2055.
