Reyneke ′Vinehugger′ Organic Red 2019/20, Western Cape

Reyneke believe there’s a lot to be said about the way wine used to be made. Back when the farm started over 150 years ago, there were no chemicals involved in keeping vines healthy. So that’s why, in 2000, they switched to fully organic, biodynamic practices. Their wines have since won countless awards, and in 2020 they were described as one of South Africa’s ‘First Growth’ wineries by top critic Tim Atkin MW. This juicy red is a brilliant demonstration of their skill. Part of the wine spends eight months in oak, making it smooth and approachable. You’ll find notes of plum, blackcurrant and peppery spice that are perfect with lamb dishes.
