Rupert & Rothschild Baron Edmond 2017/18, Western Cape

The Rupert & Rothschild partnership began in 1997. Both men were already from prestigious winemaking families. But they had an ambition to create Bordeaux-esque wines in the fantastic South African conditions. They soon produced some of the country’s finest wines. The estate is now in the hands of their sons, Anthonji Ripert and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, who continue the fantastic work. This is a savoury, full-bodied blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. It’s complex and silky with notes of blackberries, dark plum, tobacco, vanilla and toast. Try it with a sirloin steak.
